Foster and Adoptive Family Services

       of Bergen County

Dear Foster Parents,

Bergen County Foster & Adoptive Families is gathering information to about negative and positive experiences you've had with DYFS over the past year. Under the reform plan DYFS is expected, among other things, to exercise the following case management tools:

-Build a Family Team .... involve EVERYONE important in the child's life in the case plan and meetings (including foster parents)

-Hold Family Team Meetings regularly and/or when requested by a family team member (a foster parent can request these)

-Advise children 14+ of educational, training, housing, and supports available

-Encourage children turning 18 to remain in care in order to receive education, training, and other supports available to them until 21

-Design case plan based on the child's health, safety, permanency, and well-being

-Visit the child on a monthly basis

Have you seen any of these tools being used with the children in your home?  Please let us know of any other issues you or your foster children are concerned about.  We need your feedback by March 1st.

Please respond by email or phone ... your comments will be kept confidential and we ask that you do not include the child's name.
